LIFE IN ANTARCTICA
BOXING GYMNASIUM IN THE SNOW (By Russell Owen. —Special to “New York Times.”) (United Service.) Bay of Whales, April 30. Forty below zero, says the thermometer, but it seems much colder. There is much speculation as to the cause. It seems colder out of doors than the 50 below recently, and there is a feeling of dampness in the air. A gymnasium has been made in the snow by digging down and making low walls with blocks, and then covering them with canvas and Balchen and Strom box there every day.
