PETROL TAX

QUESTION OF ALLOCATION.

Allocation between the two Islands of the monies derived from the petrol tax on the same basis as for the allocation of the tire and license fees was urged in a remit passed at the conference yesterday of the North and South Island Motor Unions. Mr. A. E. Ansell, M.P., president of the South Island Motor Union, who moved the remit, said that the present legislation provided for a fair allocation of the license fees and tire tax. The late Prime Minister had promised that petrol would be placed on the same basis. All they were asking was confirmation, as the practice was already being carried ° U Mr. F. W. Freeman (Canterbury) :We thrashed this matter out almost to the point of fire, and we are unanimously agreed upon itIt was decided to send the remit on to the Government.
