CHINESE FACTIONS

FURTHER HOSTILITIES ‘ THREATENED Australian Press Association. > Shanghai, March 6. : Hostilities are threatened again in this China, culminating after almost a-year in disagreement between the Hankow gnd Nanking factions. The Nanking faction, representing the recognised Nationalist Government, is mobilising a large force in anticipation of attacks from Hankow. Dozens of Chinese merchantmen at Shanghai or in the vicinity have been forcibly commandeered, inflicting enormous losses on companies. Several gunboats controlled by Nanking have left Shanghai en route for the lower Yangtsze. The refusal of local money-changers to accept notes on the Central Bank of China to-<ipy is regarded as significant of impending trouble. The downfall of the Government, which has unceasingly bled the populace and imposed a mailed fist regime, would be not unwelcome in many quarters.
