FLIGHT TO LONDON
SOUTHERN CROSS TO START TO-DAY LONG NON-STOP STAGES TO ENGLAND IN THIRTEEN DAYS (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Sydney, March 7. The Southern Cross flight to London begins from Richmond on March 8. The first stage, to Wyndham, 1860 miles, will be done in one hop. The next also is non-stop, Wyndham to Singapore, 2030 miles. Smith and Ulm hope to complete the last stage, from i Bagdad to London, 2513 miles, nonstop, reaching England in about thirteen days from Richmond. Exhaustive tests of the instruments and the monoplane are now being carried out. , TO ASSIST ATLANTIC FLYERS Australian Press Assn. —United Service. (Rec. March 7, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 6. In the House of Commons the Air Minister, Sir' Samuel ' Hoare, told a questioner that the Air Ministry was closely watching an American company’s proposal to lay down perman-ently-anchored island stations across the Atlantic for the use of airmen.
