An unusual experience befell a young man and a young woman on Sunday (relates the Ashburton “Guardian”). With several others they had been spending the day at Peel Forest, and after tea decided to go for a stroll. Before long they were off the beaten track, m the heart of the bush. As darkness was approaching the couple decided to. return to the other picnickers. Considerable difficulty was experienced and much time lost in finding the track. Handicapped by darkness, it was some time before they arrived back to where they had left the other picnickers. . But there were no welcome voices to inquire after their prolonged absence. The party, thinking that the absentees had returned to Ashburton by another motor-car, had set off on the return journey, leaving the couple behind. On arriving at Ashburton it was discovered that the absentees had not returned, and one of the party set off for Peel Forest. Meanwhile the young man who had been left behind got into touch with Ashburton and engaged a taxi to go out for him. Ihe taxi and relief car kept each other company to Peel Forest, neither driver knowing the mission of the other until they arrived at their destination. It was. after midnight before the deserted picnickers arrived home.
