RECORD WHISKY IMPORTS

DEMAND IN AUSTRALIA Dominion Special Service. Auckland, March 6. Australia Imports more whisky than any other country in the world. Mr. A. O. Macgillycuddy, of London, Australian representative for Messrs. Robert McNish and Co., Ltd., who arrived on the Mataroa this morning, stated that the quantity of whisky being exported to Australia was Increasing annually, and that the Commonwealth was regarded by the great London houses as the best overseas buyer. Whisky manufacturers have realised that the Overseas market can be Increased by" attention to personal connections, and Mr. Macgillycuddy says that most firms are. appointing special overseas representatives to study colonial needs. “England is still a great beer-drlnk-Ing country,” said Mr. Macgillycuddy. “The Englishman sticks to his beerand will not change his drink for whisky, despite the fact that whisky is a much more popular drink than it was a generation ago.” Mr. Macgillycuddy, who is accompanied by his wife, will leave for Christchurch to-night. After two months in New Zealand he will leave for Australia.
