. That it would be a great mistake for the Education Department to get any further control of the universities of (he Dominion was the opinion expressed by Dr. J. B. Condliffe, Research Secretary for the Institute of Pacific Relations, in the course of an interview with a Christchurch “Sun” reporter. “The independence of teachers and the independence of administration.” said Dr. Condliffe. “are essential to university work. It would be fatal to centralise the administration nny more than it is now, nnd still more to put it under the control of an outside body consisting of men who are not university men.”
