OPENING ON SATURDAY. Cabled advice has been received that Gus Clifton and Max Graham, two of Australia’s leading dirt track motorcyclists, left Sydney by the Ulimaroa on Friday for Wellington, where they are tp appear at the opening of the Kilbirme Stadium next Saturday night. Competitors from various parts of New Zealand will also be taking part, amongst them being J. Arnott, of Manawatu, and W. Alien,, of. Wellington, who have had considerable experience of dirt-track racing in Australia. The total entries will necessitate the running of numerous heats and semi-finals, so that there will be a maximum of racing at the inaugural meeting. • , , Elaborate preparations have been macle for the introduction of this form of sport, and Association Park has been transformed into a perfect stadium for the purpose. The track, which will be well suited Co the motor-cyclists in making the cinder fly and in broadsiding, is completely encircled by a stand on which there is seating accommodation for 12,000 people. A special lighting system has been installed, it being an experience in other countries in which the sport has become so popular that dirt-track racing is undoubtedly seen at its best under artificial light.
