CUSTOMS REVENUE
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE An increase of £33,000 in the Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington in February is shown when compared with the figures for the; corresponding month last year. The figures are as follow: — February, 1929. £ s. d. Net Customs 233,276 17 6 Beer duty 4,093 19 9 February, 1928. £ s. d. Net Customs 200,228 17 9 Beer duty 4,537 6 1 The motor spirit tax yielded £32,419 10s. and the tire tax £4534 10s. CHRISTCHURCH FIGURES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, February 28. This month there was a considerable increase in the Customs duties collected at Christchurch as compared with those for February, 1928. The Customs figures for February, 1929, were £84,297. Beer duties were £6844, as against £5736. The motor spirits, etc., was £12,086, as against £lOOl, and tire tax amounted to £835, as against £1567.
