MECHANICAL PETROL PUMP

One of the most interesting developments in motor engineering is that of the petrol pump supplying petrol from a tank to the carburettor. An English sparking plug company have perfected a fuel pump of the diaphragm type operated by lever from the cam-shaft or other rotating parts of the engine. The pump draws fuel from the rear tank through a strainer, which is part of the pump unit, and feeds it under pressure to the carburettor in strict proportion to the requirements of the engine. It is claimed that the addition of this pump gives better idling and slow speed performance, gives ample fuel for high engine speed, and reduces the danger of tire. At the present moment this petrol pump is being used as standard equipment on 21 different makes of cars, lorries, and marine engines.
