INITIAL TRANSFERS
Having one’s initials on the panel of one’s motor-car appears to be the fashion of the day. It looks well, and improves the appearance of the car. Some drivers go so far as to say that it helps them to pick out their own car quickly, especially when there are other similar models parked near. The trouble comes when the car is traded in and is bought by someone else. The ex-owner does not like to see his old car going round the town with his monogram still on it, and the new owner frequently does not like the idea of the initials remaining on the panels. He would most likely wish to have the initials removed but might not want to go to the expense of having the doors repainted, or might not want to see an ugly mark if the initials were merely painted over. There is, however, an easy means of removing initials which have been applied in the form of a transfer. If one employs a fairly rough duster stretched over the finger and dipped in hot water the transfer can be removed by, applying pressure and rubbing, but not so hard, of coui'se, as to affect the painted surface. If this operation be repeated once or twice, dipping the duster into hot water, the transfer will most likely be removed. Should varnish have been applied over it, however, considerably longer will be taken and it will be necessary to use a little fine pumice dust to accelerate the job. Take care, however, to confine the rubbing to the transfers.
