MANUFACTURERS TO MEET

MATTERS FOR CONFERENCE

The annual conference of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation will open at the Chamber of Commerce at 10 a.m. to-morrow. The delegates expected to be present are:—Auckland, Messrs. G. Finn (president), A. W. Parker, W. D. Munn, and J. Findlay (secretary); Wellington, Messrs. T. J. Burton (president), J. T. Spears, W. McLay, F. Campbell, J. H. Whittaker, E. R. Render, and A. Seed; Canterbury, Messrs. H. Bradley (president), F. L. Hutchinson, E. Archbold and A. W. Beaven; Dunedin, Messrs. J. Sutherland Ross, C.M.G. (president), Jas. Hogg, and G. W. Reid (secretary), with the secretary, Mr. R. T. M. Edmonds.

The conference will be opened and a welcome given to the delegates by the Hon. J. G. Cobbe (Minister of Industries and Commerce), and this will be followed by the usual business and the election of officers for the current year. The luncheon takes place at ■12.45 p.m. The afternoon and following day will be devoted to the consideration of remits and in receiving deputations. Tomorrow afternoon there will be a deputation from the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers to place the state of that industry before the federation, and on Thursday the conference will receive a deputation from the New Zealand and Wholesale Clothing Manufacturers’ Industrial Association of Employers. The conference is expected to conclude about midday on Thursday, and in the afternoon it is planned to visit the factories of Motors (N.Z.), Ltd., and General Motors at Petone, adjourning later to Day’s Bay pavilion for afternoon tea.

Seventeen remits are set down for consideration, while the general matters to be dealt with include the quality and standard of New Zealand manufactures, unemployment, raw materials, and a New Zealand trade mark.
