PROPOSED EXPENDITURE STREET REQUIREMENTS At a meeting of the Petone Borough Council last night, it was decided to have the first poll for the first £20,000 of the proposed £61,000 water loan, at the elections in May. It was further decided to expend this £20,000 on the following works: — The sinking of ten artesian wells to the approximate depth of 100 feet, and the installation of an. extra water, pump at the pumping station. The laying of 12-inch steel mains from the Hutt Road railway crossing along the Esplanade to Nelson Street, and in Te Puni Street and Jackson Street, to-near Bay Street. A 12-inch branch along Victoria Street, north of Jackson Street, continuing on the Hutt Road to Udy Street, and thence to the corner of Islington Street and Udy Street. In Fitzherbert, Sydney, and Nelson Streets, and also north of Jackson Street, 8-inch mains are to be laid. South of Jackson Street, 6-inch mains are to be laid in Nevis, Victoria, Fitzherbert, Sydney, and Nelson Streets, and, north of Jackson Street, in Gear Street, Petone Avenue, Riddler s Crescent, Nelson Street (Udy Street, to Hutt Road), and Islington Street. Mains 4 inches in size, are to connect the largersized mains, and are to be laid » Amidale, Locky, Union, Regent, and Hector Streets, and Campbell Terrace. The pipes at present installed, if found to be of suitable size, and in satisfactory condition, are to be used in the remaining portions of the scheme.
