MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT
BUSINESS PEOPLE INTERESTED. When the Railway Statement was brought before Parliament in 1927, some suggestion was incorporated as to the creation of a new Ministry to deal with transportation problems. At that time chambers of commerce, while welcoming inquiry upon these matters, recorded their objections to the creation of a new and expensive Department. The Prime Minister has just announced that it is the intention of the Government to appoint a Minister of Transport, . but so far there has not been a public . announcement of whom the new Minister will be or what departmental reorganisation is intended. When the matter was touched upon at a meeting of the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce this week, it was decided, to await an announcement from the Prime Minister, which it is expected will be made following a meeting of Cabinet to be held shortly. The business community will be very interested to know on what lines the Government proposals in this connection will be based. ■ ’
