QUICK DISPATCH
RAPID HANDLING OF SHIP’S CARGO Remarkably quick dispatch was given the American steamer Golden Harvest at Wellington last week, when the ship discharged a large shipment of lumber and 2000 tons of general cargo in five days and a half. The Golden Harvest arrived at Wellington yesterday week, and started unloading at S a.m. on Monday, six gangs of ten men, each being kept going during the day, and several night-shifts working during the week. Under ordinary circumstances the ship would have been going until about next Thursday, but by good organisation and work she completed discharge of her local cargo by noon on Saturday, and was able to . sail for Lyttelton shortly after 1 p.m. The cargo landed at Wellington by the Golden Harvest comprised 1,508,000 feet of lumber, 800 tons of general cargo, 500 drums of asphalt, 1876 drums of oil, and 17,000 cases of motor spirit, etc. In addition to rapid discharge, good work was done on the wharf in sorting and clearing the lumber and other cargo to consignees. ;
