CHEAPER SERVICES FORECASTED

(Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) London, January 10.

Sir Basil Blackett considers that the Communications Company will increase the cheapness and efficiency of Empire communications. Its dividends will be 6 per cent., ami any excess profits will be divisible equally between the company and the reduction of rates, or other purposes approved by the Advisory Committee.

“This is a big new advance on the lines of inter-imperial public utility service, substituting co-operative development in telegraphic communications for uneconomic competition;” he said, “securing all the attendant advantages at cheaper rates for the public.”

The sale to the Communications Company of the assets of the cable and Marconi companies, in exchange for Communications Company’s shares, provides a capital of £30,000,000.
