ATHLETIC STADIUM
<, WELLINGTON SPEEDWAYS, LIMITED TRACK TO BE READY IN MARCH Coming into line with the principal cities of the world, Wellington at last is to have an up-to-to-the-minute sports stadium, which will provide the very best facilities for amateur and professional sports meetings of every kind. A meeting of the directors of Wellington Speedways, Ltd., was held yesterday, at which it was decided to immediately proceed with the erection of a sports ground and grandstand on_ Association Park, to be known as the Kilbirnie Stadium. The directors of the new venture were most enthusiastic, and it was decided to entrust the contract to Mr. W./Williamson, who has given an undertaking that the stadium will be completed .by the last week in February. ' No time will be lost in setting the fun going, as the first athletic gathering has been fixed for the first week in March, at which the Wellington public will have an opportunity of seeing the thrilling sport, of motor-cycle racing. . The Kilbirnie Stadium will provide accommodation for 12' ,000 spectators, and it has been so designed that everyone, will have a clear view of the grounds. Special attention will be given to lighting, and some idea of the brillance of the surroundings can be imagined when, it is stated that 120,000 '-andle-power will be thrown on to the track alone. . The stadium will be opened with the cycling outer track alone, but two other inner tracks for cycling nnd running will be laid down almost imediately. Mr. George Sutherland, the one-time world-renowned cyclist, has been appointed as manager.
