CROATS COMPLETELY DISILLUSIONED DICTATORSHIP TO CRUSH ASPIRATIONS NEW GOVERNMENT DISAVOWED The Croats are completely disillusioned concerning the new regime in Juvo-Slavia. January 10, 8.35 p.m.) Vienna, January 10. The Croats are completely disillusioned, and now believe that the real object of King Alexander’s dictatorship is to crush their aspirations. The police confiscated Zagreb newspapers containing a report of an interview with Dr. Matchek, Leader of the Croatian Peasant Party, in which he declared that the new Government was not what the Croats wanted. •
STRONG MEASURES IN . ZAGREB (“Times’ 1 Cables.) (Rec. January 10, 8.35 p.m.) London, January 9. “The Times” correspondent at Belgrade says that Dr. Matchek, the Croats leader, disavowed the new Cabinet. The new regime immediately showed a strong hand and every Zagreb newspaper attempting to publish the disavowal was confiscated. The new Government appointed a new Governor, selecting an officer who suppressed the local council in December. The police have been ordered to dissolve the Peasant Democratic Coalition at Zagreb. Telegraphic and telephonic communication between Zagreb lind Belgrade is at present interrupted. There is no news of the situation at Zagreb. [lmmediately after the issue of King Alexander’s proclamation suspending the Constitution and dissolving the Chamber there.was great popular enthusiasm in the Zagreb streets, which were thronged, the demonstrators shouting “Long live Alexander 1 At last we have equality with the Serbs.” The Croatian leader, Dr. Matchek. declared: “The fetters have been burst now. Thanks to the Monarch’s wisdom, we shall be masters in the house of free Croatia.”]
