AFGHAN REBELS DEFEATED
CESSATION OF FIGHTING PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT PROCEEDING (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Assn. —United Service.) (Rec. January 1, 5.5 p.m.) .London, December 31. The Afghan Legation has advised that the rebels have been defeated and fighting has ceased. A peaceful settlement is proceeding and normal life resumed in Kabul and Jalalabad. Heavy snow has fallen, but the cessation of hostilities was solely due to a Government victory.
