AUSTRALIAN COAL INDUSTRY
SERIOUS CRISIS IMPENDING Sydney, December 20. Sir Arthur Duckham and Mr. Dougal Malcolm, members of the British Economic Mission, after an inspection of the coalfields at Newcastle and Maitland, stated that it was apparent that a sellout crisis was impending in the coal industry of Australia. Sir Arthur Duckham said that unless New South Wales coal could be sold in Australia at lower price than Imported coal, there could be no option but to close the mines.
