WINTRY CONDITIONS AT CHRISTCHURCH

WETTEST DECEMBER FOR 15 YEARS Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, December 20. Following a spell of beautiful summer weather after the recent weeks of wintry conditions, there was a heavy downpour from the south-west to-day lasting from about 7 a.m. till late in the afternoon. The fall totalled over an inch, bringing the total rainfall for the month to date to 4»}in., and making it the wettest December for the last fifteen years. There are only three occasions on record when these figures have been exceeded. The broken weather is having a. bad effect on farm operations, and crops on the heavier lands have already suffered. The unemployed, too, are losing time in their relief work for the Christmas period. There are indications of better conditions this evening.
