LARGE GARAGE DESTROYED.

Stratford, December 18.

The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society’s motor garage was totally destroyed by fire at 4 o’clock this morning. The flames had a good hold when discovered, and the brigade could do nothing to save the building, an old wooden structure.

There were about twenty cars in the building at the time. The building and stock were insured, but the loss over the insurance is estimated at £lOOO.

Fire at an early hour this morning damaged a building at the northern end of Carterton belonging to the Stempa Estate. The building, which was formerly used as a butcher’s shop, was in use as a fish shop and dining rooms. When discovered the fire had a firm hold, but the brigade, w’ith smart work, and aided by a plentiful supply of water, made a good save. There was no insurance bn the contents of the building.
