HON. O. F. NELSON
RETURNS TO AUCKLAND FROM EUROPE QUESTION OF REVIEW OF DEPORTATION ORDER Dominion Special Service. Auckland, December 17. Returned from his unsuccessful mission to Europe in connection with Samoan affairs, the Hou, O. F. Nelson arrived by the Niagara to-day, accompanied by his six (laughters. He intends remaining at Auckland for some time to attend to the affairs of his local office.
“I am not disappointed and have no regrets about my visit to Geneva,” said Mr. Nelson, referring to the refusal of the Mandates Commission of the League of Nations to support his protest against his deportation from Samoa. “It is just as well to know where I stand,” he added, with regard
to a similar set-back he received at the hands of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Mr. Nelson sab that comments in the New Zealai’i House of Representatives showed th-t a wi-v: g impression had gained c>rrency respecting the character of be Committee's decision. “The Judiial Committee did not dismiss my appefl,” he said, “but only my petition for special leave to appeal. The giiUnd on which this decision was baser was that the Committee had no jurisJetion over the matter of deportation treatise it was an administrative act of the Governmc: and was not a judicial act. If it became a judicia act it would undoubtedly receive kteution. It has been said the Privy Council turned me down; nothing 5 farther from the truth.”
Asked if he intended taklig further steps to have his deportatici reviewed. Mr. Nelson replied: “It w<uld be very unwise for me to say anytiing regarding my intentions at tds juncture, especially when a new government is taking over affairs. At present I shall be busy attendiiS to my business.”
