PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Petone Borough Council was held last night, the Mayor (Mr, D. McKenzie) presiding. A letter was received from Mr. G. L. Feil, the accountant who was asked by a joint committee to furnish a report on the question of amalgamation between Petone and Lower Hutt, stating that he had been unable, in spite of repeated efforts, to obtain figures in respect to the Lower Hutt borough. It was decided to call the members of the joint committee together so that the matter could be fully discussed. The traffic inspector reported that 20 applicants for motor drivers’ licenses were tested during the month of November. In connection with Mrs. Hurrell’s property in Cuba Street, Councillor Jacobson moved that the resolution to purchase it which was recently passed be rescinded. The motion was lost. Councillor McCarthy then moved that the piece of land which the council required from the Kibblewhite Estate to put Udy Street through be bought out of gas debenture money. This was carried. Councillor McCarthy also moved that the matter of making the best arrangements with Mrs. Hurrell be left with the Mayor, the town clerk and the chairman of the Works Committee. This was carried.
