The second session of the International Aeronautical Conference was largely devoted to a discussion on the scientific elimination of the menace of fog to aviators. Dr. E. F. W. Alexanderson, of the General Electric Company. explained various methods of counteracting the dangers of mist with radio devices, notably sound-wave beacons. He also spoke of the aid given when landing in a mist by mechanical devices to lower to the ground while a ’plane is flying and register the distance to the earth by lights. Relief from the more technical features was afforded by tlie presentation of the Harmon throphy for the year's greatest aeronautical contribution to Colonel Lindberg, and the presentation of Distinguished Flying Crosses to Orville Wright and his late brother Wilbur.
