Dr. A. W. Izard, of Wellington, is at present visiting Christchurch. Mr. C. J. B. Norwood returned to Wellington from the South on Saturday morning. Mr. Stronach Patterson arrived from the South on Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Brown, visitors from America, who have been touring New Zealand for some weeks past, will leave here for San Francisco by the Tahiti on December 4. Mr. Russell E. Chester, of the Royal Academy of Music staff of examiners, has arranged to leave Auckland for Sydney by the Aorangi on December 31. There he will connect with the Orama for Naples. The Rev. E. R. Weeks, of the Congregational Church, intends to leave for Vancouver by the Niagara on December 18. Mr. John Duthie, of Mataura, left on Friday by the Tahiti en route to Honk Kong to resume his work in the , mission field in China. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Horsfield, of Rhodesia, are visiting relatives in the Marlborough Sounds. They will leave again for South Africa in January. Mr. A. Wyness, of the firm of J. Hyams and Co., and Mrs. Wyness, are leaving here at the end of next month to connect with the Narkunda at Sydney for London. They will be accompanied by Miss V. Gibbons. Dr. J. E. Borland, Trinity College examiner for the South Island, will leave Auckland for Sydney on December 4, with the intention of joining the Orford for London. Mr. Edgerton Low, who has been examining for the Trinity College of Music in the North Island, is to leave for Vancouver on December 18. The death occurred on Saturday morning at Greymouth of Mr. William Robert Kettle, aged 84. He was born in London, and arrived with his parents in Greymouth in 1874, states a Press Association telegram. He subsequently started business as a general merchant, and was during his career Mayor, chairman of the Harbour Board, the Grey Education Board and the Hospital Board, was president of the Chamber of Commerce, and served on numerous local bodies and societies. The deceased also took a keen interest in the district racing and trotting clubs. He was a Freemason and a Druid, and chairman of the “Greymouth Evening Star” Company. During the war he was a prominent member of the Grey Patriotic Society. Mr. Kettle visited Honolulu for the Press Congress in 1923. He celebrated his golden wedding this year. He is survived by a widow, two daughters, and one son.
