WASTE PETROLEUM
* CONVERSION INTO COAL (United Service.) Pittsburgh, November 23. A process which converts petroleum into coal was announced at the International Conference on bituminous coal. In the new process Dr. Walter Rittman uses waste petroleum, after all the gasoline obtainable by cracking has been extracted, by heating the running waste through pipe coils several thousand feet long each. Four hundred tons of waste are changed through vapour into three hundred tons of oil. recovered for the manufacture of gasoline, and into one hundred tons of coal. The coal runs in a liquid form and hardens.
