ƑORTNIGHT'S CARNIVAL
The great public effort to complete the Art Gallery and Dominion Museum building fund has now commenced, and will continue every day until December S. The doors of the Olde London Fair e and League of Nations Pageant at the Winter Show building will open at 2 p.m. to-day. and it will be officially opened by the Mayor at 8 p.m.. when the very elaborate pageant will be presented. This will be continued throughout the week. The fair will include numerous stalls and sideshows. and the pageant will be preceded each night by Y.M.C.A. gymnasium displays. On Wednesday Mr. H. S. Alpe will walk from Upper Hutt to the Basin Reserve, where a sports meeting is to be held, collecting for the sports queen. Accompanied by a band and colectors, he will set out at 5 p.m. Another pageant, "A Dream of Fair Women," will open on Thursday, and continue until December (J. This will be presented each night at the Town Hall, which will be decorated on an unusual plan for the purpose. “Joan of Arc" is the education queen, and an extensive effort is being made on her behalf in the schools. The whole drive will be brought to a conclusion on December 8 with the combined Dream of Fair Women and League of Nations pageants and coronation ceremony at the Town Hail.
