DANNEVIRKE NOTES

Dannevirke. November 24. Mr. F. H. Spencer Booth, who has been manager of the local picture shows for some months past, has now been transfer! ed to take over the management of the Britannia Theatre, Wellington. Miss K. Scott, second daughter of Mr. C. Scott, has joined the nursing staff of Wellington Public Hospital. Mr. C. M. Todd, chief clerk at Dannevirke Ballway Station, has received advice ot his promotion to the position of stationmaster at Shannon, and is to take up his duties there next Monday. Mr. Todd, who has held bls present position for over four years, is to be succeeded by Mr. F. T. P. Cotter, of Wellington. Mr. W. T. Eyre, who was formerly manager of the picture business in Dannevirke at both theatres, and who for some months past has been acting-manager of the De Luxe Theatre and the Opera House in Palmerston North, is now returning to Dannevirke to assume the management of the De Luxe Theatre and Town Hall. Mrs. P. Nass and her family, who have been spending a lengthy holiday in Dannevirke with Mrs. Nass’s married daughter, have now returned to their home In Java. Magnificent weather favoured the annual garden party held at the hospital to raise funds for the private activities and amenities of the institution, and consequently there was a record attendance and a great success was scored. An Innovation this year was the addition of a produce stall, to the cake and fancy stalls, all of which received excellent patronage. Outdoor competitions, such as clock golf, putting, etc., helped to amuse patrons, and there was also an exhibition of Highland dancing by Betty Gillespie, Kathleen Palmer, Jackie Holden, and Stuart Beedie. to pipe music by Mr. S. McKenzie. In charge of the stalls were: Mesdames W. A. Pickard, F. Selby, W. Dobson, J. S. Beedle, and Sister Murray, while the games and competitions were organised by Mrs. W. Beedie. Misses Bain, Pinckney, and Doris Mitchell, while afternoon tea. under the supervision of Mesdames B. Vartan and B. St. J. Pedler, was dispensed by an army of nurs'es to over 200 patrons. The Dannevirke Municipal Band, under Conductor W. Herron, assisted with their music, and the receipts were £lOB.
