STEAMER SERVICE
FROM BRITISH COLUMBIA TO AUSTRALIA LUMBERMEN’S REQUEST . FOR SUBSIDY (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Rec. November 23, 5.5 p.m.) Vancouver 1 , November 22. Replying to a request for a delegation of British Columbia lumbermen for a subsidised steamship service to Australia, the Federal Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr. J. Malcolm, on Thursday declared that the request ■ conforms with the policy of the Department. He promised favourable consideration within “the not distant future.” He declared that the Government was unable to give a direct subsidy to any steamer for any special trade, although it could specify the type of vessel required for lumber and other commodities.
