“JOAN OF ARC”

A big movement on behalf of “Joan of Arc,” the No. 1 Queen in the pageant, is to be launched on Monday, when all the schools of Wellington, Hutt Valley, and the provincial towns nearby will be supplied with coloured outlines of the famous leader for purposes of colouring for com-

petition. There will be a three-grade division with two prizes for each grade and a prize J’or the scholar securing the biggest number of entries. A small charge is to be made to each entrant. It Is proposed to ask for a counterpart of the queen in each school. “Joan of Arc” is the queen of education, and if every child In the province competes she should easily eclipse all others with her votes. The competition is to be open to all juveniles inside or outside the schools, and the outlines for colouring will be on sale at the carnival office and elsewhere. There Is also an effort on foot to have badges sold in the schools. Collecting during today's procession will help, and at Joan’s special pageant procession early next, month. This queen will have also stalls at the Winter Show Building and Town Hall, for which gifts of goods, are now being sought and received. Although later than the others in starting, the No. 1 Queen Committee confidently hope by their concentrated effort to win the coveted first position and materially help the Mayor’s fund.
