MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SUMMONS CASES Summons cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday re heard before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. Peter Douglas Adamson, Thomas Barry, and William McEnirney, were each charged with being found on licensed premises after hours. McEnirney, who did not appear, was fined £l, and costs. Adamson and Barry both pleaded not guilty. After Sergeant Pleary had given evidence, the Magistrate decided that the excuses offered by the two men were reasonable, and dismissed the charges. The dangers of boarding a moving train were pointed out to John Purvis, who, having been charged with that offence, was fined £1 and costs, Walter Perkins, also charged with boarding a train while it was in motion, entered a plea of not guilty. Two witnesses gave evidence to the effect that the train was not moving when Perkins boarded it, but a third said that Perkins had said that the train “had practically stopped.” The Magistrate remarked that at first he had had some doubt as to whether defen-
dant really did board the moving train, but after hearing the last witness, he had come to the conclusion that the charge had been proved. A fine of £1 and costs was imposed.
