DISPLAY AT GIRLS’ COLLEGE
The annual display of work held by the staff and pupils of the Wellington Girls’ College took place yesterday afternoon in the college, Pipitea Street. There was a very large attendance of parents, friends and pupils, the crowd being so great that it was a difficult matter at times to make one’s way to the various rooms where the work was displayed. The cookery room was a great attraction and all sorts of cakes were for sale. The chemistry room was a great attraction, a number of the'‘girls conducting experiments such as they carry out in class. History and geography books, and maps and commercial- work were to be seen in another room. Upstairs the work of the sewing class was to be seen, and in the dress-making class were exhibited frocks the girls had made for themselves. There were stalls for the sale of various goods, the money so raised being in aid of school funds. Miss Greig, the principal, received the guests at the entrance. Afternoon tea was served in the Assembly Hall by the Parents’ Association. The following were in charge of stalls:—Christmas gifts: Miss Gibson; sweets: Old Girls; cake: Miss Heine; produce: Mi?s Oddie; flowers: Misses Coad and Gillies; books: Alleen Davidson; jelly and cream: Miss Morrison; ices: Misses Johnstone and Bell. Some of the pupils also assisted in each stall. In connection with the produce stall a cake competition was won by Lola Renai. Norma Woodcock was second and Barbara Bannister third. Outside there were tenuis matches,' dartthrowing, conducted by the Wellington College boys, competitions under Mrs. Hursthouse, and displays of drill and dancing in the gymnasium under Mrs. Taylor. Music was supplied during the afternoon by the band, comprising pupils from Wellington and Rongotai Colleges under Mr. McCaw.
