“DREAM OF FAIR WOMEN”

JOY NIGHT IN AID OF “ATLANTA.” Another of the many festivities organised in connection with the approaching carnival in aid of funds for the National Museum and Art Gallery, was held in the Town Hall on Thursday night, when there was a joy night in aid of Miss Sybil Swinburne, who will represent “Atlanta, the Sports’ Queen. There was a good attendance of dancers, the big hall presenting a colourful appearance. During the evening, Miss Swinburne and .her Maids of , Honour, Misses Harper, Kitto, East, Watson, Roberts, Edwards, Clark, Nicholle, Hall, Porter, Etavenaux, and Hawkins, were introduced. A feature of the evening was an exhibition of fencing, by Monsieur Bernet and his pupils. Among the many present were representatives of various sports bodies. The dance music was supplied by ;the Kiwi Cabaret Orchestra, while pupils of Mr. David Devitt gave a most popular turn, which included songs and acrobatical dancing. Later in the evening, Miss Inez Connop and partner gave an exhibition of the latest ball-room dances. WALKING TRIP Mr H. S. Alpe, the well-known walking enthusiast, will walk from Upper Hutt to the Basin Reserve next Wednesday night,: in order to make an attempt to break his own record. He will leave the Upper Hutt at 5 p.m., and expects to arrive at the Sports Carnival at 8.30 p.m. A motor will follow, in which there will be ladies collecting for Miss Swinburne, and there will also be a lorry and a band.
