CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR THE NEEDY

Sir, —I have read with much interest the letter of “Santa Claus” in your issue of to-day, and his suggestion that Mrs. Margaret Young’s donation handed to the Mayor form the nucleus of a Christmas fund for the poor and needy of the city is indeed an admirable one. The work of the District Nursing Guild of St. John is solely among the poor and needy, and the district nurses engaged in the work know only too well the conditions under which some of the families exist. Christmas among the more fortunate members of the community is a season of good cheer which would be made more cheerful by knowing that any denial on their part towards the assistance of the fund suggested by “Santa Claus” would be giving untold pleasure to the poor kiddies in need of bd The Nursing Guild will be pleased to co-operate with “Santa Claus, and if he and any of his friends will communicate with the guild full information iri regard to the conditions prevailing in various homes will be at their disposal. . .. Anv assistance that my association can render will be readily forthcoming.—l am, CtC ” H. C. W. BLICK, Secretary St. John Ambulance Association. Wellington. November 17.
