LARWOOD TAKES SEVEN WICKETS

IN MATCH AGAINST VICTORIA

RAIN INTERRUPTS PLAY

The wicket was good. Woodfull won the toss. Play was marked by sensational bowling by Larwood, who was swinging the ball, and had taken three wickets for 34 at lunch time, when the total was 60 for three. Tate also showed glimpses of his best form. Rain fell during the luncheon adjournment, and the captains agreed that the wicket should be covered. The game was resumed at 3 o’clock, when there was more sensational bowling by Larwood, who took three wickets in four balls in a maiden over. Woodfuli was batting defiantly, but the scoring was difficult. All bowlers had a good length. .Soon after tea Larwood got his seventh wicket, Blackie making a poor stroke. Raiu fell at 4.30 aud caused another adjournment, the players being off the field for half an hour. The weather turned very cold. Woodfull scored 50 in 150 minutes. Although hampered by a greasy ball for some time, the bowlers were very accurate, and scoring was difficult. Ironmonger made the only sixer. Larwood was in fine fettlelind was faster than at Adelaide, swerving deceptively. Woodfull was unwell. Victoria’s first hundred came in 92 minutes. The following are the scores:— VICTORIA.
