RHODES SCHOLARS
CANTERBURY NOMINEE

The Professorial Board of Canterbury University College has decided to nominate for a Rhodes scholarship Philip Leonard Matthew Soljak. Mr. Soljak, who is twenty-one years of age, attended the Tauranga District High School and the Marist Brothers’ School in Auckland. In 1921 he entered Sacred Heart College, Auckland, with a scholarship. He was dux of the school in 1924 and 1925. In the latter year he won a junior university scholarship, entering Canterbury College in 192 G. He was awarded the Robert Bell scholarship in journalism. At the college he is a member of the Drama Society and gained second place in the Dialectic Society’s competitions in 1926. He played in the second grade football team -n 1926, and in 1927 was runner-up in the college swimming championship.
