KAIKOURA BUSH FIRES
CONFLICTING REPORTS OF DAMAGE Dominion' Special Service. Christchurch, October 11. The principal damage done by the bush tires north of Kaikoura, was in the Black Miller area. To-day it, was reported from Kaikoura that the fires were practically out. Reports ot the damage are’ very conflicting. There have been small stock losses, and serious damage has been done to the bush country, lhe Ohau Basin, 16 miles north of Kaikoura, suffered extensively. Two camps were wiped out on the top ot the Ohau Basin, and seven or eight men lost thenbelongings. Two scenic reserves adjoining the Ohau Basin have been affected, if not destroyed, by fire, and many campnig pots beyond the Hapuku bridge have been demolished.' There is little wind.in the ranges to-day, and the latest advice suggests that the fire will soon burn itself out. .
