AIR SPEED RECORD
ANOTHER TRIAL BY GREIG 298 MILES AN HOUR ATTAINED (Australian Press London. October 8. Flight-Lieutenant Greig had another trial and easily attained a speed of 208 miles per hour. Although only up for half an hour, the new plugs were so heavily carboned that they had to be scrapped. [Lieutenant Greig is preparing to make an attempt to beat the world’s air speed record of 318 miles an hour set up by Major de Bernardi, the Italian.]
AEROPLANES v COLLIDE
FIVE PEOPLE KILLED •
(Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Rec. October 8, 7.5 p.m.) \ New York, October 7. At Detroit five persons were killed late on Sunday when two aeroplanes collided. Three were men and two women.
MOTH ’PLANES FOR CHILE

Rugby, October 6. The Chilian Government, which already has a number of light land and seaplanes of the “Moth” design, has placed a further order with the. De Haviland Aircraft Company for forty Gypsy Moth ’planes of the same type as that which won the King's Cup this year. z Twenty of the Moths for Chile will be fitted up as long-range machines by the provision of extra tanks, and all will have a new and approved type of De Haviland safety harness. AIRSHIPS FOR AMERICA LARGEST AND FASTEST (Australian Press Assn. —United Service.) Washington, October 6. The Goodyear Zeppelin Company has been awarded a navy contract for two airships, together costing £1,600,000. They will be larger and faster than any others now built or building.
