BIG WORKS IN GREECE

BRITISH FIRMS SECURE CONTRACTS (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, October 5. During his recent visit to Paris and London, M. Venizelos held conversations with Mr. Charles Boot, head of the firm of public works contractors, and Sir Murdock MacDonald, head of the well-known firm of consulting engineers, and has entrusted them with the task of reclaiming vast areas of land and where possible irrigated on the plains of Thessaly and in Epirus, and other districts of Greece for the benefit of agriculture. The works involved will ultimately cost at least ten million pounds. Surveys will take about two years, and will engage a large staff of engineers and surveyors. -

This programme of work is in continuation of the policy of the Greek Government to make all land inside its present borders available for its people, whose numbers have been largely reinforced by the return within recent years of about one million eight hundred thousand repatriated Greeks from Asia Minor.
