AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE

SIR JOHN SALMOND’S REPORT Dominion Special Service. Auckland, October 8. “I cannot make any comment of an extensive nature until I return to Australia and see the full report,” said Sir Thomas Glasgow, Minister of Defence for Australia, on the Niagara this morning when the cabled criticism by Sir John Salmond, Commander-in-Chief of the Air Defence of Britain, was brought under his notice. The report by Sir John Salmond stated that the-Australian Air Force was useless for war owing to obsolete machines, the absence of reserve equipment, and the low standard of training. “The Australian Government has already given instructions for the replacement of the machines in use,” said Sir Thomas. “We fully recognise the importance of aviation as far as Australia is concerned, and Australia’s intention is to have her air force thoroughly efficient in every respect.”
