THE BYRD EXPEDITION
SPECIAL RADIO PROGRAMMES.

The inauguration of weekly programmes of wireless messages for members of the Byrd Antarctic expedition at present on board the base ship City of New York en route to Dunedin took place yesterday afternoon, the Pittsburg station KDKA being occupied for over tivo 'hours reading messages of greetings from all parts of the world to the explorers. Throughout the broadcast, station 2AE, Gisborne, and station 2BE, Montreal, amateur operators, stood by to check the results of the transmission. KDKA, which has shortened its wave-length to 25.5 metres, was heard distinctly from early m the afternoon, and the initial vocal broadcast was considered highly satisfactory. —
