While working at shed .37 on the Plpltea Wharf yesterday afternoon, W. Laskey, a watersider, residing at 3 Hopper Street, was struck by a swinging beam. He suffered from shock and contusion to the right thigh. Laskey was attended to by the Free Ambulance and taken to the hospital.

The Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F.; held its fortnightly meeting at its Lodge room, Trentham, on Wednesday last, Bro. C. Boult, N.G., presiding over a good attendance. The visiting members were accorded Lodge honours. Advice was received that the Ritual competition would be held on October 31, 1928. The 1925 valuation was received and discussed.

Mrs. P. A. Harkin, who resides at 14 Herald Street, Berhampore, was knocked down by a motor-car just opposite the Grand Opera House, Manners Street, shortly after 2 p.m. yesterday. She was attended to by the Free Ambulance, who removed her to the hospital, where she was found to be suffering from concussion, a lacerated wound over the right eye, and abrasions. She also sustained a dislocation to the right thumb. Mrs. Harkin was still unconscious at a late hour last night. '

The Royal Sister Wallis Lodge, Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F., held its fortnightly meeting last Tuesday,'Sister E. Parnell, N.G., presiding. One candidate was initiated into the Order, Sister D. Allan giving the lecture charge. Lodge Honours were accorded Bro. Emmerson, of the Loyal Timaru Lodge, who was present on a farewell visit. He was also thanked for the many services he had rendered' the lodge during his residence there. Letters were received from the secretary of the Past Grands Lodge indicating that the next combined, visit would be to Loyal Britannia Lodge. Also a letter stating that Bro. Guise would be lecturing on the-early history of the Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F. and a notice stating that the Judge’s intention of visiting the lodge for the purpose of judging for the Ritual Shield.

The fortnightly ‘ meeting of the Loyal Victoria Diamond. Lodge Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F. was held recently, the N.G. Bro. E. E. Whyman presiding over a good attendance of Sisters and Brothers. The members took part in a combined friendly societies church parade on Sunday, at the Century Halt The parade was headed by the Levin Band and marched from the District High School to the hall, ■which was crowded. The Methodist service taken by Rev; W. Beckett was a well-arranged one and was notable for the heartiness of the singing. Among those present was Bro. F. Hook, of Levin, who at the age of 99 is still hale and hearty. Mr. Hale came to New Zealand 8p years ago and affords a conspicuous example of the virility of the old pioneers. He boasts of 88 years’,, service' in Oddfellowship.

Knocked down by a motor-car at Miramar about 4 p.m. yesterday, Rona May Allan, aged 11 years, who resides with her parents at No. 75 Miramar Avenue, sustained a fractured right ankle. The Free Ambulance were summoned and conveyed the injured child to the Hospital.

The Loyal. Antipodean . Lodge Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F., held its fortnightly meeting this week, Bro. G. H. Snelling, N.G., presiding over a good attendance. The Lodge was notified that the judging of the Ritual work by the members of the Past Grands Lodge, and also for Bro, Turner’s Merit Jewels, would commence during the month., Bro. G. Emerson, P.G. of Loyal Timaru Lodge, who has been a frequent visitor to the Lodge while residing in Wellington, was given a farewell on his return to his native town. Arrangements were made .for the‘coming weekend visit '■ to Loyal .Martinborough Lodge, and also an official visit to Loyal Britannia Lodge. A letter.of recommendation was granted to Bro. W. J., France. Members were highly pleased and gratified to receive the official news that the Lodge’s surplus for the term 1920-1925 has been certified at £18,518, and the Trustees and Management Committee were instructed to consider the appropriation and report.
