TRAIN SMASH
AT CHARING CROSS STATION TWENTY PASSENGERS INJURED (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, September 19. A suburban electric train from Crayford this morning collided with buffers when entering Charing Cross. The front coaches were partially telescoped, but the train did not leave the rails. Twenty passengers were slightly injured, six being taken to hospital. (United Service.) London. September 19. Most of the injured at Charing Cross were women and girls, and all except six were taken home after treatment in hospital. Half-fainting women and girls were assisted to ambulances for nearly an hour. Some were imprisoned in the wreckage for half an hour. Parts of the carriages had to be sawn away, and partitions broken by hammers and wrenched away before it was possible to reach them.
