When a claim to the distinction of being the first white child born in Nelson was advanced in behalf of the late Mrs. A J. Brown Rosenberg, born on May 27, 1843, we were informed that Mrs. Prichard (nee Rush), of Walter Street, Blenheim, was born in Nelson on May 1, 1843 (states the “Marlborough Express”). It is now stated that Mr. Alfred Mills, of Johnsonville, was born on January 21, 1843, at Nelson. lie believes that he was one of the first three male children born in Nelson. Mr. Mills is still hale and hearty at the age of 85 years. __________
