BAILIFF RESISTED
ALLEGED ATTACK WITH CUDGELS MELEE AT FARMHOUSE Dominion Special Service. Nelson, September 18. Following on recent arbitration proceedings between the owner of a farm in the Rai Valley and the manager of the farm, three bailiffs were sent out yesterday to eject the manager, who had refused to abide by the decision of the arbitration tribunal. It is stated that while this was being done a party of men. armed, with cudgels, arrived at th e fa rm house, obviously to take the p.ut or the manager, and attacked the who were considerably mauled ir ’ ensuing mix-up. It is also sta ted that a police constable, who accompanied the bailiffs, was also attacked. At about midnight the intrudmg men at. last obeyed the constables orders to leave the premises.
