REST OF ENGLAND BEAT LANCASHIRE RAPID SCORING (Australian Press Assn.—United Service) London, September 17. In the match Lancashire v. The Rest of England, the Rest in their first innings made COS for eight wickets, declared (Hendren 174, Sutcliffe 139, Ames 56 not out). The Lancashire eleven, who made 296 in the first' Innings, in their second innings made 216 (Ernest Tyldesley 63). Freeman took four wickets for 75. The Rest won by an innings and 91 runs. It was certainly vivid batting. Chapman realised that Lancashire were well beaten, and obviously gave orders to hit or get out. Hendren and Ames added 179 in sixty-five minutes. Hendren hit Iddon for four sixes and took fortv-fire from eleven balls. Incidentally Sutcliffe and Ernest Tyldesley reached their 3000 runs, joining Hendren, Woolley, and Mead. This is easily a record.’ The previous best were the three, Abel, Fry, and Tyldesley, in 1901. LEADING ENGLISH AVERAGES (Australian Press Association.) London, September 17.
