WISHES TO RETIRE SOON (United Service.) (Ree. September 7, 5.5 p.m.)
London, September 6. At Mr. Baldwin’s request • Lord Birkenhead takes charge of tlie Foreign Office during Lord Cushendun s absence at Geneva. Lord Birkenhead will not retain office in any case after the election, but wishes to retire much earlier. It is rumoured in the city that Lord Birkenhead may be chairman ot the Eastern-Mnrconi merger.
