FROM FAR AND NEAR Masonic Privileges , for Ex-Enemy Members.—The English Freemasons’ Grand Lodge passed a resolution to submit a motion to the December meeting, re-admitting ex-enemy members to full Masonic privileges.—Australian Press Assn. „ Body Found in River.—The body of a man named Thomas Barry, a labourer, single, about 60 years of age, was found in the Taieri River at Henley yesterday morning. Barry was last seen alive at 6.30 last night.’ There is no evidence as to how he got into the river.—Press Assn. Man Found Shot. — William John Brown, a single num. was found shot m his hut on Mount Pisa Station early yesterday morning, and he died in the Cromwell Hospital at about 11.30 a.m. —Press Assn. Sudden Death.—Admitted to Paparua Prison on Tuesday morning, Thomas Gill, of Coalgate, was dead in the afternoon. Gill was imprisoned for debt: he was admitted about noon. He complained of trouble with his legs, and was permitted to rest He then collapsed, and a doctor was summoned, but' Gill died at 2 p.m. He was about 45 years of age. An inquest was opened, and adjourned pending a post-niostem examination.-—Special Seryice. Street Improvement Loan Carried.— A proposal to expend £220,000 on city streets over a period of four years was submitted to the Christchurch ratepayers yesterday. The loan proposal was carried by 3599 votes to 1363; informal votes were 312. The total number entitled to vote was 27.339. This is the first time the Christchurch ratep: yers have agreed to a loan for a reading scheme. —Press Assn. Daylight Saving.—At a meeting convened by the Mayor of Oamaru (Mr F. Crawshnw) at the request of citizens and. sports bodies, the following resolution was carried: “That this meeting affirms the principal of daylight saving and urges upon the Oamaru Borough Council to take the necessary steps to give effect to the measure within the borough, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the member for the district." —Press Assn. Wireless Patents.—An Australian Press Association-United Service message from London states in reference to the Loewe patent decision and that of the Brownie Company, that Marconis are appealing, but in order to assist other manufacturers Marconis announce that if the Judge affirms the Comptroller’s decisions they intend to grant licenses to all manufacturers on the same terms forthwith on request.
