'ANNUAL MEETING OF INSTITUTE MR. 'A’. 0. WILKINSON ELECTED PRESIDENT / The annual meeting of the Incorporated Institute o£ Accountants of New Zealand was held in the Accountants’ Chambers on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. .1. Hogg, of Dunedin, presided, and others present were: Messrs. FT- Uicknell, Christcliurcli * William McCulloch, Napierj D. R. Menzies, D. G. Johnston, G. J. J. Fell, E. Cannons, J. L. Arcus, W. Appleton, W. L. Wilson, Thomas Auton, A. R. Stone, T. J. C. Thurman, and A. E. Burge. The council’s report stated that during the year the following eight new associates had been admitted to the membership of the institute, having passed the examination conducted by the New Zealand University on behalf of the New Zealand Society of Accountants:- —Messrs. M. V. Bates, Oaiuaru; G. N. G. Morris, Auckland; E, J. Cook, Christchurch; R. McGregor, Christchurch; E. Souter, Christchurch; F. C. Searell, Christchurch; K. N. McGillivray, Christchurch; C. J. D. Flannery, Wellington. The membership of the institute at the beginning of the year was 458, consisting of 209 fellows and 249 associates. During the year the names of four fellows were taken off the register as the result of death, while three fellows and three associates had their names taken off by resignation, and the name of one fellow was struck off. There were eight admissions as associates, and two associates were promoted to the fellowship under the provisions of article 1. The number of members on the register at the end of the year was thus 455, and consisted of 203 fellows and 252 associates. Those whom the institute lost by death were Messrs. W. B. Hudson, of Wellington, a foundation member and a past president; Mr. H. E. Wanklyn, of Christchurch, a foundation member; P. Hercus, of Dunedin; and V. H. Sanson, of Hamilton. The council extended its sympathy to the members of their families in their bereavement. The statement of accounts showed that at the end of the financial year the institute had £l2O 16s. 6d. cash in the bank, £3OO on fixed deposit, and £1295 ss. in New Zealand Government War Doan Stock. The excess of income over expenditure for the year is £l2l 19s. 3d., and the accumulated fund stands at £1704 15s. 3d. The annual report and balance-sheet Jwere adopted. Councillors were elected as follow:— Mr. J. L. Arcus (Wellington), Mr. A. M. Seaman (Auckland), Mr. A. O. Wilkinson (Christchurch), Mr. James Hogg (Dunedin), Mr. E. J. Harvey .(Blenheim). A report of the special general meeting of the institute held on July 27 was adopted. The report showed that the motion.to wind up the institute failed to secure the necessary majority. The sum of £5O was voted to be distributed equally between the four metropolitan technical schools for the assistance of the commerce classes. The following officers were elected: Mr. A. O. Wilkinson (Christchurch), president; Mr. J. L. Arcus (Wellington), vice-president; Mr. D. R. Menzies (Wellington), treasurer; Mr. G. J. J. Fell, auditor. A committee was set up to confer jwith a committee of the Society of Accountants concerning a charter.
